Kitchen Garden
Our Louma Gardens fulfil several purposes, supplying our kitchens, providing herbs for our wellness products, and colour to the landscape, allowing diversity to thrive and abundance to grow. Our half acre formal Kitchen Garden boasts a stunning timber-frame glasshouse, and granite bordered blocks, each centred with a prolific apple tree, beautifying the garden even more, and we have Herbal and Ornamental gardens besides. Cultivated with care, using regenerative practices, our gardens are grown in collaboration with our chefs and are designed with people in mind.
Horse Stables
Share a moment with our Stables team and meet our resident horses and ponies. Learn about the day-to-day routines, and the exceptional stories of how these animals came to us and the connection they provide to so many. Meet here for horse and pony treks, where you can journey through the West Dorset lanes and surrounding woodlands, or join a connective horse experience where you can engage and form bonds with these beautiful creatures and understand all that they give to make Louma even more vibrant and magical.
Apiary
Our Apiary hosts three types of hives that fulfil different purposes, when caring for the native honeybees at Louma. Our purpose-built observation hive allows us to see the bees at work, whilst more traditional hives allow the bees to create more of a natural habitat, whilst giving us the opportunity to inspect them. Rocket hives are unmaintained, and allow wild colonies an entirely authentic habitat, built from a hollowed out logs and set on stilt-like legs or attached to a trunk. Join us on our Bee Safaris and visits the hives.
Cow Barn
Our incredible Cow Barn and Sheep Barn were built in 2022 by local timber-framer, Dave Burleigh and his team. They are a stunning example of his traditional craft, that restores a sense of connection to the environment with natural materials and great skill. Our Sheep Barn is home to our ewes when lambing, and is a integral store for our hay and tree hay. The Cow Barn is where we bring our herd in to care for them, observe them whilst calving, and milk them in our purpose-built milking parlour, in preparation for making our own butter, cheese and yoghurt.
Guppy Barn
A long-standing relic of the former Guppy Farm, that once boasted ten outbuildings, a walled garden, a plantation, and many more gardens besides. We have, to some extent, restored the barn, replacing the old roof for Spanish slate, installing beautifully wood-crafted doors and ensuring the shutter is always open for the barn owls, who sometimes nest inside. Here you can relax, with seating, soft lighting and a cosy atmosphere, ideal for enjoying your morning coffee, or playing some board games in the evening with a glass of Cuvée.
Play Area
Designed with maximal outdoor fun in mind, our outdoor play area will entice both the young and the young at heart. Let the little ones balance, swing, climb and slide through our woodland inspired play equipment, giving them space to use up some energy outside. Jump aboard our very own pirate ship and prepare to raise the sail and explore the open seas! Further afield you can find our very own double-decker play bus, with arts, crafts and movies night activities to keep the kids entertained for hours.
Woodland Walk
Built by our neighbour and traditional chairmaker, David Saltmarsh, and local spoon carver, Adam Hawker, our Woodland Walk is a magnificent feat of craftsmanship, winding through our Woodland, Spence Plantation, and spanning an incredible 597m in total. Follow the Woodland Walk along the trail, underneath the majestic canopy of turkey oaks, sycamores, beech and hazel trees – some of which are over 120 years old. Listen for the wind in the leaves and feel the ground at your feet whilst you reconnect in nature, perhaps finding treasures to forage along the way.
